In the gospel of Matthew 25:36 Jesus says, “I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Now Jesus was not in prison, he used it as a metaphor to let everyone know that whatever you did for others you did for him. Jesus teaches all of us that by our fruits we will be known. We will be distinguished from others not only in our faith but in how we practiced our faith: feeding the hungry, drink to the thirsty, a home for the homeless and a visit to those who are in prison.
Each week a group of men and I from Fruit Cove Baptist church go to minister to the men of Tomoka Correctional Institution in Daytona Beach, Florida. We pray for the men and offer spiritual guidance through the gospel of Jesus Christ. We also offer bible studies and discipleship training to the men who seek a better way to change their life.
If there is someone you know who needs visitation or prayer in the Northeast Florida area please contact me. I would be happy to arrange a visit and pray for them and give them a bible if they need one. Jesus concluded his teaching in Matthew 25:45 by saying, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.” Let us all be compassionate to the needs of those in prison.
